Toyota
Toyota is expected to announce as early as today that it is recalling more than 300,000 Prius models. The announcement will also include the Lexus hybrid, which is sold in the United States, and the Toyota Sai, a hybrid saloon marketed only in Japan. The latest recalls will mean that about 8.5million Toyota's around the world, mostly in the US, will be subject to recall. In the UK that figure stands at about 184,000, or one in nine Toyota's on the road. About 15,500 Lexus hybrids have been sold since the model was introduced last summer. Both it and the Prius are built in Japan. The first recalls began three months ago in the US with the callback of four million cars with potential floor mat foot "entrapment" problems. A total of 4.1million cars in Europe and America are being called back because of sticking accelerator pedals. The latest recall has renewed questions about how long Toyota has known about its problems.
